New York Sports Teams Add Unsavory Characters

The New York Jets, New York Giants, New York Mets, and New York Rangers have all added unsavory characters to their lineups lately. The new New Yorkers include Michael Boley, Rocky Bernard, Ron Villone, Larry Izzo, and Sean Avery.

The bad boys of football, baseball, and hockey descending on New York City has reminded some observers of The Last Judgement. The observers are asking,"Who you gonna call?"

According to the New York Times, the Giants are also ready to welcome back Plaxico Burress.

The Giants recently signed former Falcons linebacker Michael Boley and former Seahawks defensive tackle Rocky Bernard.

The Rangers recently welcomed back Sean Avery from the Dallas Stars.

At the start of spring training, the Mets signed Ron Villone to help their bullpen.

The Jets signed Bart Scott, who played for the Ravens last season.  The Jets also signed the special-teams ace, Larry Izzo.

Boley and Bernard were both arrested within the past year. Bernard was busted in April for investigation of domestic violence, and Boley was arrested in May for battery after the police were called to his home by his wife.

Burress faces an illegal weapons possession charge relating to a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a New York City nightclub in November.

Izzo, who spent the last eight seasons with the New England Patriots, had been scheduled to testify in Barry Bonds’s perjury trial, according to the New York Times. Izzo will reportedly testify that in 2003, he received performance-enhancing drugs from Bonds’ former personal trainer.

Villone was mentioned in the Mitchell report for making several purchases of Human Growth Hormone from Kirk Radomski.

Compared to some of these guys, hockey's No. 1 bad boy looks like a sensitive new-age guy. Avery recently returned to the NHL after anger management, following suspension from the league. His so-called sins include making crude comments on TV, verbally abusing hockey fans, and leading the league in penalties for two seasons.
