The New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins by a score of 4-2. Phil Hughes is pitching pretty well this spring.
I went out and just had something to eat at Wendy's and I had a cheeseburger with lettuce, onions and pickles. I was hoping to make it back at a decent time and I did.
A—Phil Hughes
I never thought Phil Hughes would pitch this well in the spring. I didn’t think he was good after he bombed last year. I gave up on him. He gave up one earned run in 4.1 innings. It looked like the Twins didn’t have their best lineup in the game but Phil got the job done.
A—Kei Igawa
It doesn’t matter if he walked two guys and had the bases loaded because it’s the bottom line that counts. He gave up no runs again in .2 of an inning. Wow. What are the Yankees going to do with him?
B+—Mark Teixeira
He had a solo bomb in three at bats. Mark is the type of player that when you look at the box score every day, you know he’s going to have a good line. I’ve read on Texas Ranger websites that he folds under pressure. I have a feeling that won’t be the case with the Yankees.
B—Brett Gardner
He had one hit in three at bats and he stole a base. Where does this guy get his speed from? I don’t understand it. Every time I see him take off for second base, I know he’s going to steal it.
C+—Austin Jackson
This might be the first time I’m mentioning Austin Jackson. He hit a solo home run but struck out twice. That’s why I gave him a C grade instead of anything higher because of his strikeouts. Action Jackson, which some Yankee fans call him, is supposed to have good speed on the base paths.
F—Hideki Matsui
He didn’t contribute anything to the game. He went 0-for-3 and lowered his spring batting average to .273.
Player of the Game: Phil Hughes

Phil Hughes will be the MAN this year. The Yankees will have to count on him because there’s going to be injuries just like there is every year.
