Over the past couple of days Jorge Posada, Nick Johnson, Francisco Cervelli, Damaso Marte, and Alfredo Aceves have all had to deal with minor injuries that left them in question of making the opening day roster.
They must be healthy enough, because the Yankees have set their opening day roster and they are all a part of it. However, whether they’ll each play on opening day is still in question.
Marcus Thames, Sergio Mitre, and Boone Logan were the three players on the bubble, but unfortunately for them not all three made the roster. Thames and Mitre will go north to the Bronx, but Logan will open up the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Here is the roster:
Pitchers
CC Sabathia
AJ Burnett
Andy Pettitte
Javier Vazquez
Phil Hughes
Mariano Rivera
Joba Chamberlain
Damaso Marte
David Robertson
Chan Ho Park
Alfredo Aceves
Sergio Mitre
Catchers
Jorge Posada
Francisco Cervelli
Infielders
Derek Jeter
Alex Rodriguez
Robinson Cano
Mark Teixeira
Nick Johnson
Ramiro Pena
Outfielders
Brett Gardner
Curtis Granderson
Nick Swisher
Marcus Thames
Randy Winn
That’s a pretty good roster. The starting rotation is solid one through five. The bullpen has no major question marks, and if Aceves' and Marte’s injuries flare up and get worse, they’ve got players like Mark Melancon ready to fill in. The bench is a defensive asset with Winn, Pena, and Cervelli ready to go. Thames’ bat should balance the lineup well against lefties. And the Yankees have probably the best lineup in all of baseball.
This team is ready to go for No. 28.
