As Opening Day anxiety continues to mount, the New York Yankees are still in somewhat of a mini-crisis on the pitching mound, as they are yet to name a formidable five-man rotation.
Manager Joe Girardi has already named ace C.C. Sabathia and recovering ace A.J. Burnett as his one-two punch, but the other three spots remain in limbo.
While the boys up in the big leagues continue to hash it out, GM Brian Cashman may soon realize that all the talent the Yankees need can be found down in their farm system.
Sunday's Newark Star-Ledger contained a feature article on Yankees pitching prospect, Andrew Brackman, depicting him as poised to finally make a serious run at joining the Bronx Bombers sooner than later after a dismal beginning to his minor league career. The article, written by Marc Carig, detailed Brackman's first few seasons in the Yankee farm system after being taken with New York's first overall pick back in 2007, only to then face Tommy John surgery the next year.
Brackman was ranked in the team's Top 5 prospects by Baseball America; thing is, he's just one three pitchers within that Top 5.
The oldest of the three at age 25, Brackman joins fellow Yankee pitching prospects Manny Banuelos (20) and Dellin Betances (22), as the group known as the, "Killer B's."
They represent the future of pitching in the Bronx.
Brackman's Tommy John surgery may have set him back a bit but at age 25, this needs to be a make-it or break-it year for him. Both Betances and Banuelos have been putting up impressive numbers this spring.
Just last week, Banuelos allowed just two hits over 2 2/3 shutout innings including two strikeouts in a 2-1 loss to the Red Sox.
All three Killer B's will be poised to climb the ranks and into the pinstripes this year, but who will don them first?
