Yankee players Robinson Cano and Damaso Marte both participated in the World Baseball Classic and both came back with injuries.
Cano was initially diagnosed with right shoulder tendinitis, and Marte with left shoulder inflammation. They went in earlier today for MRI’s and the results were positive, as there was no structural damage.
Cano diagnosis was changed to bursitis in his right shoulder and Marte’s diagnosis went unchanged.
“I was a little worried,” Cano said, “but I knew in my mind it was nothing bad because I can throw, I just feel a little pain.”
Cano, who has pinch hit the last two days, is hoping to get back onto the field on Friday. He could DH until then.
No word yet on when Marte is going to be back out on the mound. This is probably a situation where he’ll sit for a few days before re-evaluating the situation. We’ll keep you updated.
Cano was reportedly hurt before reporting to the WBC camp, but didn’t say anything because he felt compelled to represent his country.
Now he says he regrets that decision and is unlikely to pull the same move again. In the future, he said he is going to the Yankees first thing.
