After 12 games the Mets have a 6-6 record, which equals .500, but based on the OBP percentage of the team and an average of about 12 hits per game, their record should be 8-4 at worst.
They are averaging about 15 men LOB each game, this has to stop in order for the Mets to be competitive in their division.
Jerry Manuel has basically stuck with his lineup, not really tinkering too much, but something needs to be done to maximize the hitters getting on base and being driven home.
Carlos Delgado currently leads the Mets in RBI with 13, but today's loss against the Brewers was demonstrative of their current woes with RISP.
With the bases loaded, after David Wright had just taken a walk to load them up, Delgado hit into a double play, his second of the game.
Much has been said about Carlos Beltran (currently hitting fifth) and David Wright (currently hitting third) swapping places in the lineup and it may happen, but I seriously doubt that would be the only change implemented in the coming days.
The hitters are getting on base both with hits and walks but the double play has really burned them this season so far, but to be fair, they are turning their fair share of double plays so it does balance out to a degree.
It will be interesting to see what lineup changes occur, but you can be sure there will be some and the Mets need to find the winning formula for getting their runners home or else they are in for a very long season.
