The Oakland A's ended the season on a seven game losing streak. To make matters worse is the fact that September was the only month of the season that the A's actually had a winning record under the direction of manager Bob Geren.
There's a song the A's remind me of, it's by the Sick Puppies called "All the Same." The premise of the song is about a girlfriend who threatens to leave, but always comes back.
Here's some lyrics from the song:
"Go ahead and tell me you'll leave again
You'll just come back running
Holding your scarred heart in hand
It's all the same
And I'll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
And do it all over again
It's all the same"
Again, it's another year of "All the Same" for the A's. There's going to be some different players in the lineup, but eventually it will lead to the same result. Another terrible year for the A's under the direction of Geren.
Yet, the sad thing is that the A's could have at least improved their hitting coach. When Rudy Jaramillo of the Texas Rangers was let go by the team, the A's should have jumped at the chance to bring him in and let go of hitting coach Jim Skaalen.
The A's of course didn't do anything. Since Jaramillo has been with Texas, their offense has always been among the league leaders—something that the A's haven't been close to in years.
Part of the blame goes to Billy Beane too because of his stubbornness, or in this case, his unwillingness to make changes coaching-wise.
What's even more sad is that there are good managers out there that the A's could go after, but Beane refuses to. So, this leads me to believe that the 2010 the A's will show very little improvement.
