Pablo Sandoval May Be a 2011 MLB All-Star Due to Injuries

Atlanta Braves 3B Chipper Jones has been placed on the 15-day DL with a torn meniscous and will miss the 2011 MLB All-Star Game. Philadelphia Phillies skipper Charlie Manuel came out Saturday and said that it is likely All-Star 3B Placido Palanco will miss Sunday's game, and very well could miss the All-Star game.

In line as a first replacement should be Chicago Cubs 3B Aramis Rameriz.

Rameriz started the season out slowly, but has posted a .300 BA, 15 HR, 50 RBI, and a .349 OBP. Rameriz hit a total of two home runs in April and May, but has compiled nine in his last 13 games.

Pablo Sandoval did miss a small chunk of the season with a broken wrist, but has bounced back tremendously. Sandoval is currently tied for second among all NL 3B with a .301 BA. He is also tied for fourth with eight home runs.

Sandoval missed a total of 41 games, but still has a very impressive stat line (48 GP186 AB .301 BA 8 HR 27 RBI 13 2B .342 OBP). Sandoval also is bringing a 19-game hitting streak to the table.

Arizona's own Ryan Roberts (77 GP 263 AB .251 BA 10 HR 34 RBI 14 2B .337 OBP) may also be considered to be next in line behind Aramis Ramirez.

It might help Panda a bit that Bruce Bochy is coaching the NL All-Star team and may have the opportunity to choose Sandoval as a replacement.

Bochy has seen how well Panda has done for the Giants first hand.

Sandoval was ousted in 2009 in the Sprint Final Vote by Shane Victorino and is still looking for his first All-Star game appearance.
