San Diego Padres (11-11) at Los Angeles Dodgers (15-8)
Jake Peavy versus Clayton Kershaw.
The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers continue their four-game series as both teams jockey for position in the National League West division.
Online sports betting handicappers will get a chance to see a staff ace, Jake Peavy, square off with a potential future staff ace, Clayton Kershaw in the contest.
Peavy, like many other aces around the league, is struggling to start the season. Peavy has started five games this season and is 2-3, which means he has factored in each decision.
One concern is the fact that Peavy has allowed four home runs in his five starts and has given up one in all but one of his starts.
Overall, Peavy’s numbers are fairly ugly. He’s allowed at least three earned runs in all of his starts and has cumulatively allowed 20 earned runs in 31.1 innings pitched (5.74 ERA). Peavy’s strikeout-to-walk ratio is 32-12, which means that he is still dominating batters but he has battled control in his last two starts.
Over his last two outings, Peavy has given up 11 earned runs in 11 innings pitched. He has struck out nine batters in those 11 innings while walking seven.
While he has struggled, his issues haven’t been nearly as bad as Kershaw’s.
Kershaw has been used as a piñata in his four starts this season, particularly over his last two starts.
Kershaw actually started pretty well allowing just two earned runs in his first 12 innings pitched. But since then, Kershaw has allowed 15 earned runs in his last nine innings pitched.
Baseball betting fans clearly see that Kershaw has potential, as evidence by his 13 strikeout outing on April 15th. But he also has outings like his latest, where he allowed nine earned runs and two home runs in just 4.1 innings pitched.
Look for Kershaw to have a good start now that he’s back at home tonight, where the Dodgers perform much better.
