Damaso Marte has certainly had mixed results during his Yankee career, but he was lights-out in the playoffs last year, especially in big spots against Ryan Howard in the World Series.
Consider yesterday payback as he couldn’t even get an out in the fifth inning yesterday as he gave up three runs on a Jayson
Werth homer, four hits, and was removed from the game after Howard hit a liner off his back.
“He’s going to be sore,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “I asked if he had Bud’s signature on there. They said, just seams.”
Marte seemed fine to the Yankee coaches after the game and was even seen doing exercises in front of reporters. He’s certainly going to have a bruise on his back and might not make his next scheduled appearance tomorrow, but they don’t expect this to be a lingering issue.
I guess that’s the good news, that he isn’t expected to be out for a while, but there was really nothing else good about yesterday for Marte. Luckily this is spring training so he can put that bad outing behind him and the Phillies can exact their revenge in a meaningless game.
