Rangers-Red Sox: Kevin Millwood Solid as Rangers Win in Boston

First, I just have to say how annoying it is the DVR stops at a certain time instead of going until the game is over. You'd think they could solve that problem.

As for the game—it was a beauty—especially since my wife is a Red Sox fan. When someone you love is a fan of a team you just beat, it makes winning that much better.

Kevin Millwood came out firing tonight, and it showed right until he left the game. He was consistently getting his fastball up to 93 mph, and he had some pretty wicked curveballs.

What made it even more impressive was that it was against the Red Sox, in Boston.  They have a potent offense, that threatened a couple of times, getting multiple runners on, but Millwood fought back each time and kept them off the board.

It's a shame that Boston's only run came on what was questionably ruled an error on Chris Davis. For somebody that has been so solid at first this year, the scorekeeper kind of screwed him with his first error of the year.

The offense did exactly what it has done all year—put some runners on base, and bring them in with timely hitting and a home run or two.

Chris Davis may just have had the most important offensive night though, as he had solid drives for a single and a double. Going 3-for-4 on the night is exactly the type of outing he needs to break out of a slump.

His swing is looking more compact and relaxed, which is leading to hits. Now that he is timing the ball well, and actually making contact, the home runs will come all by themselves.

After dropping two games in New York, this was exactly the type of win we needed. All we need is one more win in Boston and we will have had a successful roadtrip. Two more would obviously be better, but 3-3 is nothing to complain about when you go to New York and Boston.

Winning one, or both, of the two games left in Boston will put us in a great spot going into a long and important home stand.

I will be in Arlington for the full two week home stand, but due to unexpected bills I probably won't get to go to any games, which totally sucks. So, if you have an extra ticket and want a little company, let me know and I would be happy to take it from you.

Whether I get there or not, we have started this important three week stretch in an acceptable manner, and I look for us to continue our success with a couple of solid games at home. If our other starters can continue to follow the lead of our number one.
