The Reds' only All-Star representative, Edinson Volquez, dominated once again as he helped Cincinnati beat the American League Champion Rays
Volquez pitched five innings and gave up his first run of the spring, but only let up one earned run while striking out three, walking four and allowing only four hits. Volquez has very low ERA of 0.47 and his record is 2-0 for the spring.
Relief pitchers Bill Bray and Jared Burton each pitched a scoreless inning, and Nick Masset pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning for the save.
Outfielder Jay Bruce singled in two runs in the sixth inning and had a two-hit game with a steal to put the Reds in front for good.
Joey Votto added salt to the wound as he blasted a solo home run in the blast in the eighth inning. Backup catcher Ryan Hanigan added a solo shot in the ninth. Willy Taveres also had a RBI single in the game.
The Reds record now stands at 13-15.
Next up the Reds head back home to Sarasota to play the Tampa Bay Rays at 1:05 pm ET. Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo will battle against the Rays talented Pitcher Scott Kazmir.
