Report: New York Mets and Jason Bay Reach Agreement

Joel Sherman of the New York Post is reporting that the New York Mets have reached an agreement on a four-year, $66 million deal with outfielder Jason Bay, pending a physical.

Mets officials are refusing to confirm the agreement, but at 2:12 pm on Tuesday, ESPN reported that Bay had signed.
Bay was one of the most sought after free agents this offseason, and the Mets have been pursuing him for nearly a month. Sherman said that the Red Sox were hesitant to sign Bay to a long-term deal because of the uncertainty of the health of his shoulders.
Bay hit .267 last season in Boston with 36 home runs and 119 RBI. Bay, whose defense is suspect, also struck out 162 times last season.
However, he'll provide a great power bat in the middle of the Mets lineup.
He'll be moving to a much deeper Citi Field, where home runs were not a regular sight last season.
The Mariners, Angels, and Giants were also teams who were rumored to be interested in Bay.
