Report: A's Trade For Cubs' Aaron Miles and Jake Fox

Oakland A's GM Billy Beane made it clear that the A's have no real intention to test the free-agent market in an effort to address the organization's biggest needs.

Beane reiterated that point earlier today because ESPNChicago reporter Bruce Levine has reported that the Cubs sent 3B Jake Fox and 2B Aaron Miles to the A's in exchange for RP Jeff Grey and minor-leaguers Ronny Morla and Matt Spencer.

The A's 3B situation is crucial, especially with Gold Glover Eric Chavez's inability to stay healthy enough to play.

Last month the A's signed free agent Dallas McPherson to a minor-league deal, and were thinking about bringing back Adam Kennedy, who helped anchor the hot-corner at one point in time for Oakland.

Fox was a versatile player for the Cubs. He batted .259 with 11 HR and 44 RBI. The 27-year-old was shipped to Oakland along with 32-year-old Aaron Miles, who batted only .185 with five RBI in 74 games for the Cubs.

Oakland sent Jeff Grey, who appeared in 24 games this season, and had an ERA of 3.76.
