The Mets have placed both Jose Reyes and Ryan Church on the 15-day disabled list, have activated F Mart from Buffalo, and have purchased a minor league shortstop from the Cleveland Indians.
Carlos Beltran has a bruise in his knee, which will require treatment and will not be available until at least Friday.
Being that it is only May and the Mets are playing the Nationals for two more days, weather permitting that is, they can afford to be short handed for a few games.
Fernando Tatis and Ramon Martinez will both be seeing substantial playing time, and if F Mart proves he is worth the hype that he has received in the minors, the Mets will be fine until these players get healthy.
So far, the only core player that has escaped injury is David Wright, but he will play regardless of the pain, so unless he has a major hamstring pull or something similar, he will be in there every day.
Luis Castillo has been the other everyday player for the Mets, but Jerry Manuel knows that Castillo needs rest, so he will be pushed to play pretty much every day.
Gary Sheffield seems to be making the most of his opportunity to bat cleanup in place of Carlos Delgado, so the pressure will remain on both Sheffield and Wright to drive in the majority of the Mets runs.
This should be a pretty uneventful home stand against the Nationals and Marlins, but with the roster changes, things will still stay unsettled, but at least players are being evaluated and not left on day-to-day basis.
