Royals' Mascot Creeps Me Out and Other Assessments Made During Opening Day

First and foremost, Jose Guillen is a big baby.  He's on the disabled list (surprise, surprise) three days into the season.  And with a hip injury, no less.  What does he think he is, an 84-year-old man?

Frank White has never been to Disney World.  Today he said being out at the newly renovated "K" was "like being at Disney World with so much to look at, so much to do."  What kind of imitation Disney World has this guy been going to?

Alberto Callaspo loves the movie "Knocked Up" as much as I do.  In the first inning, second baseman Callaspo, "got Matsui" out at first base even though he had Damon in a pickle coming to second.

The only way I could justify this play was so Callaspo could say he "got Matsui".  The poor decision left two runners in scoring position.  The next at bat hit those two runners in, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.

Sidney Ponson must still be drinking.  How else could they take him out of the game to be replaced by Fansworth without him putting up a fight?

Mike Jacobs is a bigger, better version of Ross Gload.  I used to refer to K.C. former first basemen Gload as "a vaccuum" because of his ability to seemingly suck any ball thrown in his direction into his glove.

I've since transferred the nickname to Jacobs.  Both first baseman, both with ridiculous facial hair but very different numbers.  Not only does Jacobs have numbers all around better than Gload but drastically greater are his power numbers.

Ryan Lefebvre is the exact same amount of annoying as he was last year.  No less; no greater.

Man, Kansas City loves their fountains.

Lastly, baseball fans in K.C. better remind themselves why they love the game, Kauffman Stadium and all that hoopla.  The Royals losing their home opener brought back an all too familiar feeling.  But, fingers crossed, it won't be any indication of how the rest of the season will play out.
