Kila Ka'aihue, while his name is hard to pronounce, is a very promising young player in the Kansas City Royals' organization.
Ka'aihue had a magnificent year in '08 when he hit 37 homers with a .314 average and 100 RBI.
He then found himself in the big leagues in September where he hit his first major league home run.
This spring some thought maybe Kila could make the big league team. But with a log-jam at first, he was sent down to Omaha. Some guys in Kila's situation might pout and see his numbers drop, but not Kila.
In just two games, Kia'aihue has knocked in four runs and has hit one home run. I think that if he is able to hit the way he did last year, he will find his way to Kansas City well before the September call-ups.
Thanks to Kia'aihue's three-run shot, the Omaha Royals beat the Albuquerque Isotopes, 9-5. Pitcher Luke Hochevar allowed two runs, one earned, in five innings.
Luke Hochevar, the former No. 1 overall pick, got robbed out of a spot in the rotation in Kansas City.
I, along with many Royals fans, thought he deserved the four or five spot in the rotation, but manager Trey Hillman decided to go with lefty Horacio Ramirez and spring training pick-up Sidney Ponson to fill out the rotation.
I expect to see Hochevar back in Kansas City by the end of May. He has great stuff, is improving his command, and will eventually become a very solid starter for the Royals.
