After spotting the Kansas City Royals two games in the American League Championship Series, the Toronto Blue Jays returned home for a three-game set at Rogers Centre. The two American League finalists are in the middle of a three-games-in-three-days set that could ultimately decide which team represents the AL in the World Series.
The Jays got off to a slow start in Kansas City, but their bats came to life in Game 3 en route to an 11-8 victory. Toronto used a six-run third inning to build a big lead and survived a four-run rally in the top of the ninth to hold off the Royals.
Game 4 was a completely different story. Kansas City stormed out of the gate with four runs in the top of the first, knocked out Jays starter R.A. Dickey in the second and cruised to a 14-2 win Tuesday. Now the teams will return to Rogers Centre for Game 5 Wednesday evening.
If you're looking to watch Game 5 on the tube, you can find it on Fox Sports 1 at 4:07 p.m. ET. Should you be looking to head to Toronto and catch the potential series-clinching game, keep an eye on ScoreBig.com to see if tickets become available.
Edinson Volquez of the Royals is scheduled to start on the mound versus Marco Estrada, according to the Blue Jays' official site. Both pitchers sport 1-1 records in the postseason, but Volquez has the slight edge in ERA with a 2.31 compared to Estrada's 3.09.
Volquez's win and Estrada's loss came in Game 1 of this series when Volquez tossed six shutout innings. As ESPN noted, Volquez became one of only four Royals pitchers to go six scoreless innings in a playoff game.
As the above tweet noted, Volquez entered that game with a career 8.76 postseason ERA, so his Game 1 start could have been an aberration. Those in Las Vegas seem to agree, as Odds Shark listed the Jays' odds of winning Game 5 as 3-2.
The Blue Jays themselves must think they can get to Volquez as well, as they will send Estrada to the hill and save David Price for a potential Game 6 start. If the Jays don't get to Game 6, it could turn into a long offseason of questions for manager John Gibbons.
