San Francisco Giants Announce 25-Man NLDS Roster

With Game 1 of their National League Division Series matchup against the Cincinnati Reds coming on Saturday, the NL West champion San Francisco Giants have announced their 25-man roster, according to the San Jose Mercury News' Alex Pavlovic

For the most part, there are no surprises. At this point in the season, it's likely that manager Bruce Bochy wanted to go with the players who led the team to its 94-68 record and did not want to fool around with team chemistry.

In fact, the most notable roster move that the Giants made was forgoing an additional bat on the bench to keep both Guillermo Mota and George Kontos in the bullpen.

In most circumstances, teams tend to stick with 14 hitters and 11 pitchers in the playoffs, as managers prefer the bench flexibility for defensive and running purposes. Instead, the split will be 13 hitters to 12 pitchers on Bochy's roster when the Giants take the field at AT&T Park on Saturday night.

The first two games of the NLDS will be played in San Francisco before the teams travel to Cincinnati for however many games remain. The Giants are in the postseason for the first time since winning the World Series in 2010 and just the second time in nine years.

With that in mind, let's take a look at San Francisco's full roster in preparation for Friday night's opening game:

Pitchers: Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, Barry Zito, Sergio Romo, Javier Lopez, Santiago Casilla, Jeremy Affeldt, Jose Mijares, George Kontos, Guillermo Mota

Catchers: Buster Posey, Hector Sanchez

Infield: Brandon Belt, Marco Scutaro, Brandon Crawford, Pablo Sandoval, Ryan Theriot, Aubrey Huff, Joaquin Arias

Outfield: Gregor Blanco, Angel Pagan, Hunter Pence, Xavier Nady
