San Francisco Giants: Place Aaron Rowand On 15-Day DL

There are two really, really scary plays in baseball. The first being when a batter hits a line drive at the pitchers head and the second being when a pitcher hits a batter in the head with a fastball.

The later happened when Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Vicente Padilla drilled San Francisco Giants center fielder Aaron Rowand in the head in the fifth inning of their game Friday night. The pitch resulted in Rowand suffering a minor concussion and two small fractures in his left cheekbone.

Rowand was placed on the 15-day DL

Due to those injuries, The Giants have placed Rowand on the 15-day DL. It’s expected that Rowand will miss two-to-three weeks.

In his place, the Giants will look to Eugenio Velez or Andres Torres to play center field. I bet the Giants would love to have Fred Lewis back now. He is better than any of these two ham n’ eggers.

And yes, I do understand Velez was hitting over .360 going into Sunday’s game. And I also understand that he probably won’t finish the year with a batting average over .265.

Rowand was hitting .304 with a home run, a triple, a double, and a .790 OPS in 46 AB’s before his injury.
