When the Tampa Bay Rays sent Scott Kazmir to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last August, Sean Rodriguez was an afterthought in the trade. As a matter of fact, he was the ever so famous “Player To Be Named Later.”
Now it looks like Rodriguez might be paying dividends for the Rays.
It’s hard to put a lot of stock in a player’s spring training performance, but Rodriguez is off to one heck of a start in the Grapefruit League. Rodriguez hit his third home run in as many days for the Rays in the Rays’ 12-7 win over the New York Yankees yesterday.
Rodriguez is off to a hot start this spring.
The 24-year-old is playing his way right on to the Rays’ Opening Day roster. Even if he slows down the rest of the spring, he might make the Rays’ roster just based on his versatility.
So far this spring, Rodriguez has played short, second, and the outfield. That versatility might give him an edge over Reid Brignac, who he is competing for a spot with.
