4/29/09 – The Seattle Mariners finish season series No. 7 in slight disappointment, losing the series 1-2 to the Chicago White Sox. 13-9 is our record heading into the Oakland A’s series after a day off.
Cheer! – Rain outs mean double headers and the White Sox even switch up the rotation to give us a better pitching match up, M’s Chris Jakubauskas vs. the Sox Bartolo Colon and moving John Danks to the night cap to face off vs. M’s Felix Hernandez.
Jeer: A 2-out, 2-run, double by Sox first basemen Paul Konerko was all it took for the White Sox to put the Mariners away. Jakubauskas’s eight innings pitched complete game earns him a loss because the Mariners score only one run on a Rob Johnson rbi-double.
Cheer: Third Baseman Adrian Beltre gets a stolen base in the ninth inning vs. White Sox catchers who are 0/21 in throwing out base runners.
Jeer: Endy Chavez, Franklyn Gutierrez, and Jose Lopez all reached first base during the game and did not attempt to steal. While none of them are prolific base stealers, you just have to try and take some momentum!
Cheer: After four hits and one run scored in game one vs. Bartolo Colon, they saved some face vs. even better pitcher John Danks and knocked in nine runs on 17 hits.
Jeer: Franklyn Gutierrez a righty gets benched in favor of Wladamir Balentien also a righty vs. lefty John Danks, while Endy Chavez a lefty was left in to go 0 for 5. While Franklin has struggled hitting the ball, why not let him build some confidence vs. a favorable platoon split?
Cheer: Short stop Yuniesky Betancourt brings a bat to the game and goes four for five with a home run and five runs batted in.
Jeer: Yuniesky Betancourt gets schooled by Jose Lopez in the field; thus helping Jose Lopez getting a Baseball Tonight Web Gem.
Cheer: First baseman Russell Branyan lefty goes five for five tonight showing that he may not need a platoon partner after all.
Jeer: Branyan only faced Danks twice, so he was only two for two off of a left-handed pitcher. So the jury remains out.
Cheer: Felix Hernandez says I’m am the greatest, by throwing eight innings pitched, striking out nine, only walking one and not allowing an earned run over four hits.
Jeer: Roy Corcoran is still struggling by blowing the shutout in the ninth by allowing a run on two hits and one walk.
Cheer: Mariners got two steals in this game, including one by Ichiro!
Jeer: Well I could complain about there not being more, but I won’t it was a nine run game. So no jeer here.
Cheer: Game three features Erik Bedard vs. White Sox starter Gavin Floyd, a pitching match up the Mariners should be all over!
Jeer: Gavin Floyd six innings pitched, 10 hits 2 walks and 3 K’s and the Mariners score 3 runs off of him. Erik Bedard goes five innings pitched walks 3, strikes out 3, allows 6 hits, and also gets tagged for three runs. Mariners fail to capitalize; White Sox make the best with less.
Cheer: Adrian Beltre gets a stolen base to push the White Sox catchers futility to 0/22 on attempts to catch base thieves.
Jeer: Adrian Beltre gets caught stealing in the seventh, White Sox catchers 1/23.
Cheer: The Mariners are still leading the division.
Jeer: We lost two games to the White Sox that we should have won. While its baseball and that’s how the ball bounces sometimes, it doesn’t make it any easier to swallow.
Cheer: Time to take some from the A’s Lets go Mariners!
