So Where Do Your Favorite Chicago Cub Players Live?

With a tip o’ the cap to The Big Lead, I came across an article in the Chicago Tribune about Chicago Cubs’ LHP Sean Marshall‘s latest purchase.

Apparently Marshall has paid $1.7 million for a 17-room, 7,400 square foot house in Lincolnwood. Marshall’s new crib has 6 1/2 baths, four fireplaces, glass walls, wood beams, a guest apartment suite with an elevator, a master suite that adjoins an indoor pool and spa, a theater and a billiard room with a dumbwaiter to the kitchen.

This house sounds pretty sick. What’s even more sick is that Marshall has only made $1.7 million so far in his career. He is guaranteed to make $3.1 million next season but after 2012 he is a free agent.

Marshall must have looked at what other middle relievers have gotten on the open market the past two years and figured he will get three years and $15 million easy. I guess he didn’t factor in the remote possibility of him getting hurt in 2011 or taxes.

Glad to see Marshall picked up the MC Hammer book called “How to piss away every penny you have ever made in your life.” I believe the forward in that book was written by Antoine Walker.

Just in case you were wondering how other Cub players were spending their money and were they were living, here is a breakdown according to the Tribune.

Ryan Dempster owns two mansions near Wrigley Field—one is listed for $1.9 million—and a nearby condominium and reliever Jeff Samardzija paid $710,000 in 2008 for a condo in the Southport Corridor.

Kosuke Fukudome paid $1.44 million last year for a Streeterville condo and Alfonso Soriano paid $2.65 million in 2006 for a condo in Streeterville.

Aramis Ramirez owns a condo on the Gold Coast he bought in 2005 for $937,500 and Kerry Wood owns a mansion in Lincoln Park he bought through a bank trust in 2008 for $3.32 million.

And Carlos Zambrano owns homes in River Forest and West Lakeview. He paid $1.2 million in 2006 for the River Forest mansion and picked up his West Lakeview home in 2008 for $2.66 million.
