Sometimes Technology Is Confusing

We’re starting to get spoiled as sports fans. Sports fans with jobs, that is. The emergence of rich, online media from mainstream sports entities have made the enjoyment of athletics away from the television a real treat which of course, means more time wasted on the company’s dime.

The online coverage from CBSSports.com during March Madness was nothing short of spectacular. The evolution of MLB.com’s gameday tracker has provided baseball fans with a graphical interface that is as close to watching a live game as possible. With a few clicks, you can get instant access to everything from batter/pitcher spray charts at specific ballparks, to the name of the left fielder’s sister all within MLB Gameday.

And it's all free.

But, with this technology comes minor hiccups—namely from the humans on the other end that enter the live data.

Case in point is below where we witnessed one of the more confusing play scenarios in recent memory.

Had to be a hell of a catch by Moss.

April 10

1989 - Ken Griffey, Jr. hits his first career homer on the first pitch he sees at the Kingdome. The day happens to be the 39th birthday of his father, Ken Sr. which inevitably leads to another incident involving Uncle Clyde Griffey. That Uncle Clyde always had a thing for mannequins.

1990 - Wade Boggs is intentionally walked three times, tying a Major League record for a nine inning game. Boggs, a self-admitted sex addict, later told reporters he climaxed during all three of the plate appearances to pass the time.

1990 - George Bush becomes the first U.S. President to throw a first pitch in Canada as part of Opening Day ceremonies at Toronto’s Skydome. Oddly enough, Hacksaw Jim Duggan entered a wrestling ring set up in the same Skydome nine days earlier at WrestleMania six, thus becoming the first good guy to carry an American flag and start USA chants in front of a Canadian crowd.

Jesse Ventura does not approve.

In an unscientific mustache nation survey, 44 percent of JoeSportsFan readers emailed their initial reactions to the site inbox after viewing the above version of the homepage as seen at various points Wednesday and Thursday.

Of the respondents, 38 percent believed Norm from Cheers was grimacing because Steve Austin was about to open up a can of whoop ass on the “dude in black standing in the bathroom”.

The remaining 6 percent believed Norm was upset because Stone Cold’s presence meant “less beer for Norm and more listening to Cliff Clavin”.

The other 56 percent of readers involved in the survey responded with the “I choose not to respond” tab.

…That, when he’s healthy, this dude is a badass on the mound.

Coming into the season healthy for the first time since 2006, Chris Carpenter took the mound yesterday in St. Louis and went seven innings, gave up one hit, one unearned run, walked two, and struck out seven.

Yeah, it was against the Pirates, but still.
