Marte Leaves Game After Moving to CF
Saturday, Aug. 13
Nesbitt reported Pirates head athletic trainer Todd Tomczyk went out to check on Marte in center field before removing him from the game.
The 27-year-old continues delivering at the plate and in the field for Pittsburgh. In 107 games, he's batting .316 with seven home runs and 39 RBI. According to FanGraphs, his 3.3 WAR is highest on the team among qualified position players.
While the Pirates have no shot at winning the National League Central behind the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh currently sits 1.5 games out of the NL's second wild-card spot.
The Pirates are also one of the few teams that could lose a player of Marte's caliber and still have a strong outfield. Even with Andrew McCutchen underperforming this year, he and Gregory Polanco can pick up the slack in Marte's absence.
Manager Clint Hurdle will likely deputize either Sean Rodriguez or Matt Joyce to fill in for Marte in left field.
