Tampa Bay Rays Shut Out By Yankees Phenom Reliever

By the way, that phenom reliever is Nick Swisher.

I hate the Yankees.  Therefore, every chance I get to mock them, I go for it.

It is a sad day when your first baseman pitches better in relief than the actual guys labeled as pitchers on your 25-man roster.

Chien-Ming Wang now has a 28.93 ERA.  It's a good thing the Yankees stocked up on starting pitching this offseason.

Carlos Pena, Jason Bartlett, and Pat Burrell all went deep off Yankee pitching last night, helping the Rays demoralize the Yankees 15-5.

The only Rays starter without a hit was Carl Crawford, but he got on base in other ways and scored twice.

These are the guys that are favored to win the World Series, right?  Mark Teixeira, A.J. Burnett, and CC Sabathia were supposed to help the team get back to the playoffs in 2009.

Sure, we're only seven games into the season, but the Yankees now sit below .500 at 3-4.

Is it the end of the world? If this were any other team in the majors, I'd say no.  This is New York though.  Starting 0-1 would be a disaster, even with 161 games left in the season.

The good news is that I believe the Rays are for real.  I've liked them as my second team ever since my high school schoolmate was drafted by them in the first round, David Price.  I never knew they would be this good though after being the laughing stock of the AL East for years.

However, you have to hand it to Nick Swisher, he pitched a great eighth inning.
