Every Major League Baseball player will remember his big league debut or his first career hit, but in the case of San Francisco Giants rookie Andrew Susac, it's not so clear-cut.
On July 26, the Giants called Susac up to the major leagues for the first time. However, the record books will show that he made his major league debut on May 22.
How is that possible?
On May 22, the game between the Giants and the Colorado Rockies was suspended with the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The game was resumed Monday, with Susac now a member of the team.
The catcher entered the game when it resumed. Although Susac had already appeared in 17 games, this appearance will technically go down as his major league debut.
To make things a bit more complicated, he singled in the eighth inning of the suspended game this week.
On July 30, the rookie had notched what appeared to be his first big league hit.
Which should Susac remember as his first career hit?
It's an unusual—but awesome—twist to Susac's career. It may not be the easiest for fans to follow, but the rookie can decide for himself how he remembers his MLB debut and his first hit.
There's no confusion as to what this game will count as for the Giants. They won the game 4-2, so they can just add a game to the win column.
