With the help of his fellow Tooele, Utah, residents, 20-year-old Ryan Tomac was able to cross something off his bucket list recently.
He got to watch his favorite team, the Cincinnati Reds, play at Great American Ball Park.
Tomac was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, a rare cancer, last summer. Recently, he was informed that the cancer had returned and that there was nothing doctors could do. So he created a bucket list.
At the top of the list: seeing his favorite team play at its home stadium.
As Cincinnati's Local 12 reported, the Tomac family packed up their RV and made the trip from their small Utah town all the way to Cincinnati. According to Google Maps, that 1,600-mile trip would take more than 23 hours from start to finish.
Regardless of how long the trip took, Ryan and his family were determined to make it happen, and the people of Tooele raised money to help with travel expenses.
Ryan was attendance for Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Although he didn't get to see a Reds victory, he did get to see his favorite player, Brandon Phillips, pull some of his usual shenanigans:
Of course, Dat Dude BP—who went 2-for-4 in the game—was more than happy to spend some time with Ryan:
Not only did Ryan get to hang out with Phillips for a bit, but he also received cool autographed memorabilia from the team, including a baseball, bat and jersey.
Between the road trip, the game and meeting Dat Dude BP, this bucket-list item turned out to be quite the experience.
