It's almost unfair that Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish has so many different pitches in his arsenal. Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter would probably agree.
In the late innings of Thursday's game between the Rangers and the Tigers, Darvish broke out the rare eephus pitch against Hunter:
The pitch, according to MLB Gameday, was recorded at 55 mph. When a pitcher can touch 97 mph and then throw something like that, batters are at a huge disadvantage from the moment they step into the box.
Darvish eventually struck Hunter out to give him six strikeouts in seven innings of work on the day.
