Troy Glaus to Sign with the Atlanta Braves

By Caesar Cliffius

--------------------------

The Atlanta Braves and third baseman Troy Glaus are close to signing a contract. ESPN reported that the only object in the way of signing Glaus is a physical exam. MLB.com is already showing Glaus in a Braves cap on his profile page.

Glaus is expected to play first base for the Braves, a void he will be asked to fill left when Adam LaRoche filed for free agency. He has very limited time at first, playing only six games there in his 12 major league seasons.

Troy led the American League in home runs in 2000 with 47. He has hit over 30 home runs five times, knocked in over 100 runs four times, and scored over 100 runs three times.

Glaus was named to four All-Star teams and won two Silver Slugger awards.

He will be joining a Braves unit that is on a course to win. They sent Javier Vazquez to the New York Yankees the other day for center fielder Melky Cabrera. Glaus is expected to bring some more power to the middle of the lineup with Chipper Jones and Brian McCann.

Glaus, 33, was plagued by injuries in 2009 with only 32 PA in 14 games.

Here are his career numbers:
