Not much has changed for the Minnesota Twins over the past two decades.
They have played in the same stadium, have been owned by the same family, have had the same uniforms, and have had only two different managers.
But that is all about to change.
History shows that when change happens in Minnesota sports, it requires a new look.
The Minnesota Wild have sported an alternate look this season. After beginning the first season in franchise history without RW Marian Gaborik, head coach Jacques Lemaire, or GM Doug Risebrough, the Wild have opened a new chapter in Minnesota hockey.
Same goes for the Minnesota Timberwolves. After trading Kevin Garnett, who spent his first 13 NBA seasons in 'Sota, to the Boston Celtics, the Wolves got new uniforms and a new logo.
In 2007, under a new owner and a newer head coach, the Vikings made their first significant uniform change in 46 years.
In 2008, the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team changed their uniforms for the first time since 1997 in anticipation of their new stadium, TCF Bank Stadium, which opened a year later.
Now the Twins, who have had the same uniform since 1987, will see their first major overhaul in 22 years.
The Twins will wear their 1961 throwbacks, commemorating the team's 50th season in Minnesota, for the first game at Target Field and will wear them for every Saturday home game.
Besides a subtle tweak with the lettering across the chest to match a change in the Twins logo, the team's regular home uniform remains unchanged. However, the Twins have completely remodeled their road uniforms.
The new road uniforms are a solid grey and have the pinstripes removed. They also have the word “Minnesota” scripted instead of printed across the chest.
The last time the Twins revamped their uniforms, they won their first World Series title in 1987.
