Two MLB Batters Strike Out While Getting Plunked in Different Games

If it wasn't so clearly laid out, this might be a time when there would be crying in baseball.

Last night, Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips was hit in the knee by a pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The pitch was ruled a strike, however, because Phillips swung at it and was called out.

Meanwhile, in the bottom of the eighth inning, Angels shortstop Eric Aybar was hit in the knee by a pitch but swung past the check point.

Aybar was also called out despite the hit by pitch.

How often does lightning strike twice like this? You can watch the video of the two simultaneous horribly unlucky strikeouts below.

Hat tip to Buzzfeed Sports for the find.
