Where Would Teahen Fit In Boston?

Rumors have been swirling around Kansas City Royals infielder Mark Teahen, with most of them seem to have Teahen going to the Boston Red Sox.

Teahen could fill the third base role vacated by the recently injured Mike Lowell. Kevin Youkilis has moved across the diamond to his natural position of third, with Jeff Bailey and Mark Kotsay platooning at first.

If Lowell's laid up for an extended amount of time, Teahen can play both first and third, and provide a decent bat in the lineup. And when Lowell does return from his hip injury, Teahen would be a great bat off the bench.

Red Sox assistant GM Allard Baird used to be the Royals' GM, and Teahen played for Baird in Baird's time as GM. Baird could pull some strings with his old friends in Kansas City.

The Red Sox could likely give up one of their younger prospects and maybe Julio Lugo. Lugo's stock is pretty high right now, as Lugo is hitting .284, an incredibly high clip for him. Lugo also has 1 home run and 8 RBI. He has 31 hits in 37 games.

Teahen is hitting .294 with nine home runs and 24 RBI. Teahen has 91 hits in 85 games.

As for prospects, the Red Sox could send Jonathan Van Every and/or Chris Carter to KC, along with Lugo.

But if Allard Baird can pull strings, it could just be a straight-up Lugo-Teahen deal.
