New York Mets third baseman Wilmer Flores avoided a serious injury Thursday when X-rays on his left hand came back negative.
The team tweeted the news, saying Flores has a contusion on the hand.

Mets Catch Break with Flores News

After the Mets announced David Wright will undergo neck surgery, it appeared the team's infielder situation became worse when Minnesota pitcher Ricky Nolasco hit Flores in the hand with a fastball.
However, Flores will likely not miss any significant time since he is only dealing with a bruise.
This is good news for the Mets, as Flores has been on fire as of late. Before Thursday's game, Newsday's Marc Carig provided a look at the 24-year-old's numbers:
Flores was struggling to even come close to his numbers last season, when he hit 16 home runs and 59 RBI while batting .263. He is currently hitting .250 with two homers and only nine RBI, so Flores still may not match his 2015 statistics, but at least he is starting to show some life at the plate.
New York ranks second-to-last in the National League with 240 runs scored, so it needs all the firepower it can get offensively. Assuming the injury does not get worse, look for Flores to soon return to the lineup to help the pitching staff get some much-needed run support.
