Rumors across town are circulating about the status of Chien Ming Wang and whether or not he will be tendered a contract by the Yankees. Most people around baseball seem to think that the Yankees will not offer him a deal, but they may try to bring him back at a much cheaper price.
It has recently been reported that Wang got an excellent report from Dr. James Andrews and he may be 100 percent by the middle of April. You can add his name to the list of low risk high reward pitchers that the Mets might consider signing. Guys like Rich Harden and Brad Penny also would come up in that conversation.
Wang will turn 30 in the beginning of the 2010 season, and he has a stellar career record of 55-26. Maybe the Mets could lure him to this side of town by offering him a deal that is stacked with incentive rewards.
Truth be told, it's probably unlikely that this will come to fruition. It may have a negative affect on his marketing in Taiwan, and it also seems like he wants to remain a Yankee. It is compelling to think that Omar might be able to lure him away. This is a guy who won 19 games in two consecutive seasons. You cannot do that unless you have talent.
Let the rumor mill keep on swirling. It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
