It was a great day for the Yankees.
They got their rings, and were up big on the Angels going into the ninth.
That's when David Robertson came in to pitch.
Last year, young Robertson was very effective out of the pen, going 2-1 with 63 strikeouts.
A good fastball and a great curve make Robertson an ideal guy that you would want coming out of the pen.
But then again, everyone has those days.
You know.
The oh-crap-this-day-sucks-I-can't-wait-for-it-to-be-over days. Everyone has them.
So do you. Get real.
Maybe today was one of those games for Robertson, because everything seemed flat, and he didn't have very good control.
After he gave up a few hits to load the bases, in stepped Bobby Abreu.
Robertson put a fastball right down the middle, and Abreu launched it into a crowd of not-so-happy bleacher creatures in right.
Grand slam. Score now 5-7.
That was Robertson's last pitch. The sandman then entered to put it away, striking out Torii Hunter and popping up former teammate Hideki Matsui.
Robertson was frustrated, but hey, you know how it feels to have a bad day and give up a grand slam.
Oh wait.
Ok, well you know how it feels to spill your coffee or whatever, right?
Yeah, that's my point.
Or maybe he was just trying to get the crowd to stay in their seats and set up Mariano's 528th career save.
Either way we'll forget about it.
Final Score: Angels 5, Yankees 7
W: Pettitte (1-0) L: Santana (0-2) SV: Rivera (3)
HR: NYY-Jeter (1), LAA-Abreu (2)
