Yu Darvish Injury: Updates on Rangers Star's Elbow and Recovery

Texas Rangers star pitcher Yu Darvish is slated to undergo an MRI on is right throwing elbow on Nov. 20.

General manager Jon Daniels explained the situation regarding Darvish to ESPN Dallas, via MLB.com's Cash Kruth:

He's doing his normal offseason program. At this point, he typically doesn't start throwing until December anyway, so he's doing his normal conditioning, throwing, lifting. Get the MRI at the end of the month here, right before Thanksgiving, and he would go back [to Japan].

Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram added more details:

Darvish's last start came Aug. 9 against the Houston Astros, and he was shelled for six runs (five earned) in four innings.

Then the three-time All-Star went on the disabled list for the remainder of the 2014 MLB season with right elbow inflammation, finishing with a 10-7 record and a 3.06 ERA.

Pitching has been Texas' perpetual weakness, as the Rangers ranked 30th in quality starts this last year. If Darvish's status is in jeopardy for any extended period of time, Daniels and the front office will have to work wonders this winter to string together a respectable pitching staff.
