The week began with a jubilant cry from the west coast.

It was reported on Wednesday that the Chicago White Sox had reached a preliminary deal with the San Diego Padres for Jake Peavy. Chicago, in return, would give San Diego four prospects, headlined by Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda.

My buddy, Clayton in Colorado called me Thursday afternoon, sounding as if his Rockies had just won the World Series.

Winning in the Bronx seems to have become an everyday thing as the New York Yankees broke out the brooms and swept the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night, beating them by a score of 7-4, and extending their winning streak to nine games.

I have nothing against the White Sox.  I’ve been to that new stadium of theirs, and it was really nice.  Carlos Quentin played on my fantasy team last year and was great until he broke his own hand.  Their manager is really funny in a “glad he does not run my team” sort of way, and I think they won the World Series a few year ago.    

If you're a White Sox fan, I'm sorry, today was not a good day at all.

First, the Twins decide they're going to light you up for 20 runs, including a Joe Mauer grand salami and three 4+ run innings. Well, at least you scored that one run in the eighth right?

It hurt this offseason when Jake Peavy turned down my favorite team, the Atlanta Braves.

The Chicago White Sox join the list of jilted suitors of the San Diego Padres' ace.

When Peavy turned down President Barack Obama's favorite team, my only conclusion was that Peavy was headed to the eventual destination of most big-time players looking for lots of money: Boston or New York.

It's easy for us to forget just how good Chris Carpenter is.

Nobody went without noticing him in 2005, when he lit the league up with a 2.83 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 213 K, 21 win, and a four shutout season. He also had a shiny Cy Young trophy to top that off.

He didn't forget how good he was the following year, when he had just as dominant of a season, capped with a league-best WHIP of 1.06 and three shutouts.

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 8-3 in Boston Wednesday night. It was a great night for the Sox in many ways, and possibly their best game of the season to date.

Toronto's Brett Cecil and first-year Red Sox Brad Penny were the starters of tonight's game.

Cecil came into the game 2-0 with an ERA of 1.80, one of the young pitchers stepping up for Toronto's injury-filled rotation. Penny entered the night with an ERA of 6.69, despite a winning 3-1 record.

As I watch the New York Yankees erupt for another night of offensive fireworks against the Baltimore Orioles under-whelming pitching staff, I’m tempted to pound out a column imploring team president Andy MacPhail to forget about his plan and go find some pitching NOW.

Then, after I take a few deep breaths and let the blood flow back to my brain, I realize that this is one of the rare cases in professional sports where you can’t dwell on the current win-loss record.

When it landed, Red Sox Nation exploded: a late October slam could hardly draw a louder roar, and the feeling couldn’t really be better.

Currently on an absolute tear, the New York Yankees kept the beat going on Wednesday night with a huge 11-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles, moving their winning streak up to eight games.

Nick Swisher, Robinson Cano, and Melky Cabrera clubbed back-to-back-to-back home runs in the second inning, powering the Yankees to 4-0 lead early in the game.
