Shots Heard 'Round the World: MLB's 10 Most Memorable Home Runs

The home run is one of the most exciting plays in sports. Fans and players feel a rush of excitement when a ball goes over the wall.

There are some big flies more exciting than others. Here are the 10 most memorable home runs in Major League Baseball history.

Where Does Derek Jeter Rank in the 10 Greatest Yankees of All-Time?

The Yankees have had some of the greatest players in Major League Baseball history. This list ranks the top 10 of those legends who wore the pinstripes very proudly during their stay in the Bronx.

To rank the players I used their individual stats while with the Yankees and their success in the postseason. I also took into consideration military service and career-threatening injuries.

The 10 Greatest MLB Stars Who Finished Their Career in a Strange Uniform

Before Hideki Matsui signed a one year, $6.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels, he had never known a major league team other than the New York Yankees.

The reasons that Matsui left New York; injury concerns, payroll, age, meant nothing to the bleacher creatures who worshipped him at the height of his outfield playing days in the Bronx.

Why Do the Yankees Drive Their Own Players to Drink?

The New York Yankees.  Lord of their realm, with fans who let you know it.

Talking to a Yankee fan is generally an exercise in futility, since they are programmed to utter two basic phrases:

Phrase one: “Twenty-seven rings, baby”, or a something along that vein.

The MLB Sabermetric Team of All Time

I am an "Old School" guy, and proud of it most of the time. In fact, I go so far back, I can recall when rainbows were still in black and white, and televisions were run by gas.

When it comes to selecting All-Anything teams, I always catch it from some (usually young) brainiac who tells me that I can't compare Pete Rose to Ty Cobb or Chase Utley to Nap LaJoie.

Then I am presented with comparisons beginning with lower case letters followed by all caps:  wRC, wOBA, tRA, etc., ad nauseam.

New York Yankees: Inside The Number 27

First off, let me congratulate the Yankees on winning their 27th World Championship by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game Six at the new Yankee Stadium.

The point of this article is to go in depth into the number 27, and even using the two and the seven in a math equation to bring up a significance. I hope you enjoy.

27 = The number of world championships for the New York Yankees after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies to win the World Series in Six games.

New Babe Ruth Footage Shows Rare Glimpse Of the Bambino On Defense

Recently, the home movies of a New Hampshire family contained new, never before seen footage of the legendary Babe Ruth.

Dizzy Dean Blasts Babe Ruth

On February 26, 1935, Babe Ruth returned to Boston. Baseball's greatest player signed with the Braves, hoping to play for, and eventually manage, Boston's other team.

The Release

It was a dark, cold, rainy day when Yankees' owner Colonel Jacob Ruppert, Braves' owner Judge Emil Fuchs, and Babe Ruth met before a contingent of reporters at the Colonel's brewery.

What if the Red Sox Had Traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1915?

I happened across an item in the Feb. 3, 1915 edition of The New York Times, about a trade rumor during the winter meetings, which were being held in a New York City hotel.

Here's an excerpt: “As usual, the air was full of rumors of trades. The one rumor which seemed to carry the most weight was that the new owners of the Yankees had come to an agreement with Owner Joseph J. Lannin of the Boston Red Sox for a trade which would involve the transfer of one of the Boston left-handed pitchers to the Yankees.
