With Sunday's two-run single in the third inning of a 5-2 loss to the Houston Astros, Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles recorded his 500th and 501st career RBI, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. Jones needed 981 regular-season games and 3,680 at-bats to reach the 500-RBI milestone. 

We're now more than a month into the major league season and despite their struggles, the Baltimore Orioles currently hold a 15-14 record and are tied with the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East.

Manny Machado is back.

The Baltimore Orioles are expected to activate the 21-year-old third baseman before the series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. With Tuesday's game being postponed because of rain, it's expected that Machado will make his season debut on Wednesday.

The Baltimore Orioles are currently sitting at second place in the AL East with a 12-12 record, and they have been flirting with a .500 record for the past week.

Despite kicking off the season with a 2-5 record in their first seven games, the Orioles have rebounded nicely, winning 10 of their next 17 games, thanks to notable contributions from some of their offseason acquisitions.

Though it was fun to behold, the Baltimore Orioles’ return to the postseason in 2012 had the look and feel of a season that was going to be awfully hard to repeat.

And it was. The Orioles went from 93 wins in 2012 to 85 wins in 2013, in large part because their pitching was nowhere near as consistent as their offense and defense.

When the Baltimore Orioles traded Danny Valencia to the Kansas City Royals for David Lough this offseason, they were hoping they were acquiring a high-energy player who could help fill the void in left field created by Nate McLouth's departure. 

So far this spring, it appears they got exactly what they hoped for. 

It's been an interesting offseason for the Baltimore Orioles, as they made mostly under-the-radar moves up until the past couple weeks, when they added a pair of the top remaining free agents on the market in slugger Nelson Cruz and right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez.

From the beginning of the MLB offseason, Nelson Cruz seemed like a very good fit for the Baltimore Orioles, with their interest in Cruz reported early on. They weren't alone, however.

You don't come across perfect free-agent fits that often. A lot of players fill needs, but not budgets. Some players fill needs and budgets, but not long-term plans. And so on. You know how it is.

I guess that makes today a special day, for today we have an excuse to talk about a rare perfect free-agent fit: A.J. Burnett and the Orioles.
