Mark Newman was nailed with a DUI the other day, but unlike former Yankee executive Steve Swindall it appears that Newman’s status within the organization is secure. Or at least he’s giving interviews and acting as if everything is all right.

Just two years ago Corey Hart was an All-Star and the most popular Brewer player behind Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun.

Hart has proven how quickly things can change in baseball.

Entering the 2010 season, Hart is coming off an injury filled season that saw a significant dip in most offensive categories. He's also had his battles in the media, criticizing the fan base several times.

Hart made the All-Star game in 2008 as the final member thanks to the fan vote.

There was some concern over over Derek Jeter’s right hand yesterday after he came up visibly sore on a diving play in the fourth inning.

It didn’t appear to be a big deal at the time, and manager Joe Girardi said he didn’t even notice Jeter’s discomfort.

But when it comes to The Captain, injuries are almost literally the only thing that can hold him back.

The two favorites going in were Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain, with Chad Gaudin, Sergio Mitre and Alfredo Aceves as the longshots.

It's already the middle of March, halfway through the 2010 spring training season, and I am making a case now as to who the fifth starter should and needs to be starting now and going into the future.

Hughes needs to be made the fifth starter and Joba to be put back into the bullpen for good. It's where he really belongs.
