Best of the Decade: Third Basemen

It seems hard to believe, but we are already in the year 2010. And with any new decade, it seems only fair to look back on the best of the previous 10 years.

So with that, I present my top 10 picks from each position between the years 2000-2009: Hot Corner time!

As with any ranking, there will always be snubs. I welcome any comments suggesting players that may have been left off this list.

The Red Sox Top 20 Games From 2000-09 (Part I)

As with the rest of the articles in this series, I started out intending to list the Top Ten games of the last decade; but then realized I would have to leave too many great games off the list if I limited it to just ten games.

So, as a result, I hereby present you with my Top 20 Sox games of the last 10 years.

Part I of the list contains Games 11-20:

Game #20. Big Innings Abound - June 27, 2003 and May 7, 2009

These were the BIG-inning games from the decade…both occurred at Fenway Park.

Five New Years Resolutions for the Cleveland Indians

Well, it's January 1st, and as always, people around the world are resolving to better themselves in the year ahead.

Some people will resolve to lose weight, some people will resolve to think more about others, and some people will resolve to read my articles more often (I hope).

The principle doesn't apply very well to baseball; if executives thought about improving their teams only once a year, they'd be fired pretty quickly.

Nevertheless, here are my suggestions for how Larry Dolan, Manny Acta, and Mark Shapiro could better the Cleveland Indians in the year ahead.

Are the Chicago Cubs Trying Out for the "Biggest Loser" TV Show?

Watching highlights of new Chicago Cub centerfielder Marlon Byrd running the bases makes me wonder if the Cubs are trying out for “The Biggest Loser.”

If you have ever had your girlfriend ask you, “Honey, does my butt look big in these jeans,” you know where I’m coming from. We all know what the politically correct answer is, but boy does Marlon Byrd look big in his baseball pants.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2010: If I Had A Vote

I love January, it's a start to a new year or in this case a new decade and it's the start of a new class for the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.

The most sacred place in all of baseball is Cooperstown, every one wants to be there but only the best of the best are allowed in.

This years ballot will consist of fifteen new names along with the eleven that got over 5% of the vote last year.

I, like every baseball fan, wish I had the ability to vote, but I don't, so I can't vote for my ten guys, but I can make a slideshow of them.

I will rank from the least deserving (10) to the most (1).<

Here's a Thought: Matt Capps—A Bright Spot For The Washington Nationals

My writing has recently been somewhat derogatory toward the Nationals pitching staff.

An "Over the Hill" Hoyt Wilhelm No-Hit the Arrogant Yankees

Rich Fox is an Orioles fan who remembers when the Orioles were the Yankees' patsies, but even in those days, the Orioles had their moments.

Rich takes great joy in recalling how Hoyt Wilhelm no-hit the the "arrogants" from New York on September 20, 1958.

It wasn't until June 11, 2003, that the Yankees again suffered the humiliation of being no-hit.

Philadelphia Phillies Add To Their Bullpen, Sign Danys Baez

Before I get to my Danys Baez envy, I wanted to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. I also hope everyone had a safe New Year’s Eve, or as it is commonly referred to in New York City, amateur hour.

Today is the first day of the year, but I also feel one of the most underrated days of the year. There are no responsibilities, there is college football all day, the NHL Winter Classic, classic movies like Airplane on Comedy Central, and of course, Chinese food.

What’s better than that?

Backstop: A Baseball Love Story In Nine Innings Now Available!

I’ve always loved the game of baseball. What’s not to love? A simple game─hit a round ball squarely with a round bat─with simple rules: reach base, move the runner along, and score more runs than your opponent.

MLBs 10 Best Starting Pitchers of the 1960s: Gibson, Koufax, Marichal?

There were 69 starting pitchers from the 1960s who pitched in at least 200 games.

If a player does not appear on the list of the 69 eligible players list, then they either didn’t reach 200 games or I consider them a pitcher from the 1950s or the 1970s.
