Alfonso Soriano Could Become The Worst Free Agent Signing in Cub History

Alfonso Soriano has seen most of his stats diminish every year since his career season with the Nationals in 2006. Because he had a decent 2007, his first season as a Northsider, some have argued that his Cubs career, thus far, could be described as a wash or even a mild success.

His statistical trends, however, show that his Cub career has been poor, and is getting worse.

Winter Meetings Day One Wrap: Mariners

It’s finally that time of year, folks. This is what we’ve been waiting for since the Mariners fell out of the AL West race back in July: the winter meetings are finally here.

Day one was relatively uninteresting, with no major news taking place. There were a few minor signings and arbitration decisions—however none of them involved the Mariners so I’m not even going to talk about them.

There were a few developments on the Mariners front, though.

Detroit Tigers Sign Adam Everett: 2010 Shortstop Position Is Filled

Shortstop Adam Everett was signed Monday to a one-year contract for the 2010 season by the Detroit Tigers, who were able to cross an item off their shopping list.

The signing of Everett does not come as much of a surprise for a franchise that is short of cash but flush with needs. The financial reality of the Tigers does not allow them much leeway in offseason spending.

A Log For The Hot Stove: Carl Pavano

The Winter Meetings kicked off this morning, and while no blockbusters have been reported as of yet, the buzz has been quite good regarding players like Curtis Granderson, Brad Penny, Milton Bradley, and even Edwin Jackson. The Twins are traditionally lesser players this time of year, 2007 excepted, but that hardly dampens the fun of watching deals get made and forecasting which teams will come out winners in the annual Great Trade Melee.

Pettite's Return, and What It Means

According to sources of ESPN's Buster Olney, Andy Pettitte will pitch in 2010, and his return is just a matter of working out a deal with the Yankees .

Let the Magic Begin at the Winter Meetings

Throughout baseball, team representatives and members of the media have packed their suitcases and found themselves in Indianapolis. What could possibly possess the baseball community to make a trip to the frozen mid-west in the dead of winter?

The Winter Meetings begin today and with them the hopes and dreams of your team becoming a contender are born.

Chicago Cubs Promote Ryne Sandberg To Triple-A Manager

Is this heaven? No, Mr. Sandberg, it's Iowa!

Reports are that the Chicago Cubs have promoted Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg to the bench in Iowa as the manager of their Triple-A affiliate.

Somewhere, Joe Morgan is telling someone that Sandberg can't manage, either.

Houston Astros All-Time Roster

This is my definitive list for the All-Time greatest Astros at each position.
Spanning the length of the Astros time as a Major League organization, and wading through some of baseball's All-Time greats! My list features one player twice, and leaves off a Hall of Famer who some consider to be the greatest pitcher to ever take the mound. While there may be some who disagree with portions of my list...take no heed of them because...I am right!

The Fantastic Mr. Fox: A's-Cubs Trade Liberates Suppressed Talent

Is it weird that I continue to root for my fantasy players even after their tenures on my team have ended?

Take Matt Holliday. After limping to an 0-3 start in my most important Head-to-Head league in 2007, I swung a deal for a young slugger who I admittedly didn’t know much about. I went 13-1 after the trade. Coincidence?
