Subway Series Part Two

Two weeks ago today, the Mets endured one of the toughest regular season losses in franchise history when Luis Castillo dropped a pop-up with two outs, allowing the tying and winning runs to score in the ninth inning for the Yankees.

Everyone was wondering how the team, but more specifically, Castillo would respond.

Since that fateful night in the Bronx, the Mets are playing .500 baseball (6-6), but took 3-of-4 against the Cardinals to put themselves just half a game behind the first place Phillies.

Crawling Out of the Basement? Part Four: Washington Nationals

Could a team needing to get out of the basement be any more obvious than the Washington Nationals? At 21-49 (as of June 25), the Nats look to be leading the races to the top pick in the 2010 entry draft.

Maybe that isn't such a bad thing, considering the fortunes of Stephen Strasburg being taken first overall by the struggling franchise this summer. Agent Scott Boras is aiming for a six-year, $50 million contract for his prized possession. With the way Jim Bowden ruined this franchise with players like Paul Lo Duca and Dmitri Young, Strasburg is a steal.

San Francisco Giants: Cain Is Able

There are whispers in San Francisco. From the fog banked hills to the sun drenched downtown streets—there are whispers. Barely audible mutterings, a once very familiar phrase coming back.

As you get closer to China Basin and AT&T Park, the whispers get a little louder, and the words begin to form in your ears...playoffs...

Around the league you will not hear these whispers. And for good reason—it's a little early to begin talking about the 2009 Giants reaching the postseason.

Red Sox Should Take a Page From The Nationals' Book

The Boston Red Sox recently completed a three game series against the Washington Nationals in the nation’s capital. The Sox took two out of three against the lowly Nationals in a relatively unremarkable series—with one exception.

Thanks to the droves of the fans of Red Sox Nation that follow the Sox all across the country, the Nationals recorded three consecutive days of their biggest crowds ever at Nationals Park.

Toronto Blue Jays' Defensive Gems

Is it any surprise that the Toronto Blue Jays are the best defensive team in the majors this season?

Beer Report: New Yankee Stadium

“Beer needs baseball, and baseball needs beer–it has always been thus.” –writer Peter Richmond

While beer remains a ballpark staple for many fans, they can also indulge in a wide selection of wines, mixed drinks, and even sake by the plastic cup at the new

A-Rod Ties Reggie and I Was There To See It

After nearly a month-long hiatus, I have returned to Bleacher Report, but who cares, lets get on with the article.

It didn't take long Thursday night before Alex Rodriguez tied Reggie Jackson for 11th on the all-time home run list with his 563rd blast of his career in the first inning.

What more could I ask for since I was there?  Well the ball could of landed in my lap, but that would be too good to be true.  I got a nice view of it as I was three rows back in left and I knew it was gone as soon as it reached the outfield.  The wind was blowing out.

If the New York Mets Are in It Now, They'll Win It Later

June 21, 2009.

That was the day.  Doesn't seem so long ago.  I was sitting in my weekend plan seats, watching the Mets' bullpen implode and force them to lose their fourth straight series.

It was sometime late in that game where I realized the Mets were extremely depleted, and had no realistic shot at the division.  By the time Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado, Oliver Perez, John Maine, J.J. Putz and Billy Wagner (phew) returned, it would be too late. They might make a run, but it would be far too little.

Girardi Has a Plan For The Subway Series

Joe Girardi has been around the New York Yankees for a number of years in several different capacities. He has seen a bunch of Subway Series with the Mets.

And he has learned how much it means to Yankee owners to beat the Mets.

Girardi has apparently been under a great deal of stress to win the series with his cross town rivals to the point of ignoring the last few games trying to prepare for the Metropolitans.

American League All Stars: Who Should Start

The votes are coming fast and furious.

It’s the annual debate of who should be an starter in the All Game versus those who are being voted by you, the fans.

Yes, it’s that time where Major Leaguers who shouldn’t be selected by the fans, are.

People like Manny Ramirez, who was a leading candidate in the outfield for the National League after being suspended 50 games for PED's. Then once the outrage began, he mysteriously fell to sixth.

Or the injured Josh Hamilton.

Today we will take a look at the American League voting.

Do the fans have it right? Let’s take a look:
