The Los Angeles Angels (6-14) released slumping veteran outfielder Bobby Abreu, opening up a spot in the lineup for 20-year-old prospect Mike Trout.

Regardless of how the highly-touted Trout turns out in only his second stint under the bright lights of the big leagues, cutting Abreu will still be the right move.

The first step to being successful is getting over .500 and the Oakland Athletics have taken that step. 

The A's took a 3-1 lead on an Eric Sogard two-run home run and never looked back on Friday night. 

Josh Reddick added a home run for Oakland and finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Brandon McCarthy picked up his first win of the year. He was solid for seven innings allowing two runs while striking out four and issuing three walks.

Today the New York Mets (9-8) placed left fielder Jason Bay and starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey on the disabled list.

Bay suffered a non-displaced fracture of a rib on his left side while attempting a full-extension catch in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader with the San Francisco Giants.

Jose Reyes returned to CitiField Tuesday night for the first time since he sold his considerable shortstop talents to the Miami Marlins. He heard more boos than cheers, and he continued to struggle at the plate.

The Indians are currently 8-6, one game behind both the Tigers and White Sox in the AL Central.
