Yankees Lose Out On Cliff Lee Deal: Blessing In Disguise For The Bronx Bombers?

In the middle of the night, while many East Coast baseball fans were sleeping, possibly dreaming of the glorious news that the Yankees had finalized a deal to bring Cliff Lee to the Bronx, the unthinkable occurred: somehow, the Yankees didn't get their man.

Joe Blanton: Odd Man Out Headed To Boston?

Joe Blanton might be the only member of the Philadelphia Phillies who wasn't ecstatic to hear that the team signed free agent ace Cliff Lee.

Lee's addition now gives the team two Cy Young winners, a former World Series MVP, and Roy Oswalt. Because he now seems expendable, some reports have Blanton being shipped to the Boston Red Sox.

Cliff Lee Phillies: Red Sox Continue To Profit From The Deal

Cliff Lee Phillies marriage has Boston Red Sox fans giddy this Tuesday morning.

Obviously, the Yankees losing out on a front line starter is a big deal: anytime the Yankees lose anything Red Sox fans have to be happy.

But because the club's biggest offseason acquisitions (outfielder Carl Crawford and first baseman Adrian Gonzalez) were both left handed bats, the Yankees missed out on having a great response to their AL East rival.

Cliff Lee Phillies: Bad News For The Rest of the NL

Cliff Lee Phillies news is sweeping the nation today and there will likely be many more dominoes to fall.

Although the rest of the NL has to be distraught over the move, teams like the Cubs, Rockies, and World Champion San Francisco Giants, the NL East will suffer the most.

And while the Marlins and Mets could be a factor next summer, it's the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals that are most impacted by the Lee deal.

Cliff Lee Signs With Philadelphia Phillies: The New York Yankees' Reign Ends

George Steinbrenner was more than a mere baseball mogul. For better or worse, his time at the top of the New York Yankees ladder changed the game forever. During the latter years of the Steinbrenner era, as the landscape became the free market free-for-all Steinbrenner so encouraged during the first two decades of free agency, the Yankees became a symbol, an empire that ruled baseball with an iron (golden) fist.

Cliff Lee Shocks Baseball, Signs With The Philadelphia Phillies

So, I guess there was a mystery team after all.

Usually when an agent tells everyone there is a “mystery team,” it’s nine times out of 10 just him trying to make agent speak and trying to drum up interest in his client.

It’s like when a girl tells you she is leaving for another guy. You kind of don’t believe it, but in the end, it proves to be true.

MLB Rumors: Cliff Lee Phillies Signing, Zack Greinke and More

MLB Rumors are starting to turn into fact.

Cliff Lee has a familiar new home for the 2011 season (and far beyond).

Where does that leave Zack Greinke, who many would consider the next in line to be shopped to a contender?

But Greinke and Lee aren't the only ones out there who could be changing addresses.

As free agency continues on there will be much more dealing by general managers desperate to make their team better.

New York Yankees Shunned for Phil-Lees

On a night when Brett Favre’s record for consecutive regular-season starts finally came to an end, Major League Baseball and pitcher Cliff Lee stole the spotlight.

As one of the hottest free agents on the market this offseason, much of the speculation about Lee’s new home pointed toward the New York Yankees.

After all, the Yankees have seemingly had their way in free agency with the ability to throw money at any superstar they thought might help them add to their trophy case.

New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox: Merger of the Empire and the Nation

When you are a Yankees fan, there are only two possible outcomes: The Yanks win the World Series and reaffirm your belief that you indeed root for the best team under God's blue sky, or the Yankees fail in their quest and you somehow begin to question the very existence of the Big Man himself.*

Derrek Lee to the Washington Nationals? Don't You Believe It!

Bill Ladson of nationals.com reported on Sunday that the Washington Nationals are interested in signing first baseman Derrek Lee.

Oh, please.
