Second baseman Neil Walker will return to Citi Field to continue his stint with the New York Mets after accepting the team's $17.2 million qualifying offer, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported Monday.

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu opted out of the final three years of his six-year, $68 million deal with the team Monday, according to CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes.  

The 29-year-old still belongs to the White Sox but will undergo arbitration each offseason until 2019. 

A Cuban defector, Abreu came to the United States in 2014 and quickly became one of the league's most feared power hitters. 

After having his best season while with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016, Jeremy Hellickson has decided to extend that partnership by accepting the team's $17.2 million qualifying offer.  

Free-agent slugger Mark Trumbo is coming off a career season, which will only drive up his value on the market this winter.

The Oakland Athletics reportedly traded infielder Danny Valencia to the division-rival Seattle Mariners Saturday in exchange for pitching prospect Paul Blackburn.

Major League Baseball's award season continued on Friday with the announcement of this year's Defensive Player of the Year at each position, along with Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts being named the overall Defensive Player of the Year. 

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Friday that they traded Howie Kendrick to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Darnell Sweeney and Darin Ruf.  

Kendrick spent the last two seasons with the Dodgers after nine with the Los Angeles Angels. 

After spending all of 2015 as their starting second baseman, Kendrick was a utility man in 2016 while veteran Chase Utley was Los Angeles' go-to guy at the position. 

The Toronto Blue Jays appear to have found their answer at designated hitter, signing Kendrys Morales to a three-year contract.

Christopher Meola first reported the three-year deal. Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com confirmed the agreement, adding that it will pay Morales $33 million total.
