The Baseball Writers' Association of America announced the finalists for the four main year-end awards Monday, featuring a few surprises in each category, per John Schlegel of MLB.com.

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired veteran catcher Carlos Ruiz from the Philadelphia Phillies in August, but they elected to trade him to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.

The Colorado Rockies have reportedly hired Bud Black as their manager heading into the 2017 season, per FanRag Sports' Tommy Stokke. Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal confirmed the report.

The Chicago Cubs announced they will not pick up starting pitcher Jason Hammel's contract option Sunday.

Hammel's 2017 option was worth $12 million, according to Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago. The deal included a $2 million buyout, per Spotrac.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Keon Broxton was arrested on Friday and charged with misdemeanor trespassing. 

Per Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, Broxton was arrested in Tampa after refusing to leave an area following a fight. 

Auman noted the incident took place at 3:26 a.m. on Friday morning after Tampa police were dispersing a crowd following a fight. 

Miguel Montero had two of the biggest hits for the Chicago Cubs during their postseason run that culminated in a World Series title, though the veteran catcher was not thrilled about playing a part-time role in October. 

The St. Louis Cardinals officially declined the remaining option year on outfielder Matt Holliday's contract Friday after general manager John Mozeliak indicated the team would do as much toward the end of the regular season. 

With starting pitcher Danny Duffy set to hit arbitration, he and the Kansas City Royals have reportedly begun contract talks.

Manager Terry Francona led the Cleveland Indians to the 2016 World Series, where they lost a dramatic Game 7 to the Chicago Cubs in extra innings, 8-7. The organization announced Friday it elected to exercise the 2019 and 2020 club options on his contract.
