Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report: Orioles' Zach Britton to Make MLB Debut Sunday

According to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, Baltimore Orioles starter Brian Matusz will miss 3-6 weeks with a strained intercostal muscle.

Zack Britton will take Matusz’s spot in the rotation, making his major league debut on Sunday against the Rays.

Ichiro Suzuki Sets Seattle Mariners Record for Total Hits

Saturday night, Ichiro Suzuki connected on a pitch from Oakland reliever Brian Fuentes to surpass Edgar Martinez for the Seattle Mariners' franchise lead in total hits (2,248).

It's no surprise; throughout Ichiro's career, he has been a record-setter for the Mariners.

San Francisco Giants: Defending Champs Shut Down by Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers

San Francisco Giants Fall 2-1 To Arch Rivals in Opener

Let the championship hangover griping begin!

Well, I guess that might be a little premature. But still, the Giants didn't look so hot in their season opener on Thursday night, dropping a game on the road to the Los Angeles Dodgers by the final of 2-1.

Yankees Start Things off Right, Looking Hot Despite the Cold Weather

Today did not feel like Opening Day in baseball should feel. It was absolutely freezing at the stadium, windy, and at times we were hit with freezing rain/hail.

However, the Yankees looked pretty great for Opening Day. The bats came alive after a slow start, and the pitching looked top notch.

CC Sabathia tossed six innings, giving up six hits and three runs (two earned). He had seven Ks and two walks, tossing a total of 106 pitches.

San Diego Padres: Bud Black's Club Shows Plenty of Resilience on Opening Day

San Diego Padres Fight Back to Beat Cardinals 5-3 in Extra Innings

It may be just one game, but you have to hand it to the San Diego Padres. They probably had no business beating the St. Louis Cardinals in their season opener today, but they did anyway, winning by the final of 5-3 in 11 innings.

On the mound for the Cardinals was former Cy Young Award winner Chris Carpenter, and the box score would seem to indicate that he dominated the proceedings. In seven innings of work, Carpenter allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out four.

MLB: Another Quiet Move Made as Philadelphia Phillies Sign Ronnie Belliard

Philadelphia Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. made a small move today, signing Ronnie Belliard to a minor league contract.

Belliard, set to turn 36 on April 7th, was released by the rival New York Yankees this past Monday after showing up to spring training overweight and just hitting .136.

Opening Day 2011: LA Angels Start New Season on High Note with Win over Royals

Jered Weaver pitched 6.1 strong innings, Torii Hunter and Jeff Mathis provided solo home runs, and the Los Angeles Angels won their seventh Opening Day game in the last eight seasons, defeating the Kansas City Royals, 4-2.

When Weaver left the game with one out in the seventh, he had a 4-0 lead. However Hisanori Takahashi, pitching in his first game for the Angels, gave up a home run to Jeff Francoeur, ruining the shutout bid.

After Failing to Make It to Opening Day It's the End of the Line for These Vets

2011 Spring training was a time where some major league veterans have one last chance to continue their careers in the show. Some have made it and might just have a very productive season. Some might have just seen the end of the road for their careers. So, for those who didn't make the cut and are now on the street as free agents, let's take a look at their respective chances to get up and keep going.

Fantasy Baseball 2011: Don't Even Think About Drafting Mets' Carlos Beltran

Aging and Injury Plagued Carlos Beltan Equals 2011 Fantasy Baseball Bust

The Mets are going to be awful this season and Carlos Beltran is going to be a big part of that.

The former Astros playoff hero has never lived up to the enormous contract the Mets threw at him in 2005.

Does a guy that hit .255 while hitting seven home runs and 27 RBI sound like a worthy pick-up to you?

After sitting out for half the season in 2010 with a knee injury, Beltran had an abysmal 66 games.

Andy LaRoche, Landon Powell, Bobby Cramer Make A's Roster; Tyson Ross Reassigned

Following the Bay Bridge series finale and end of spring training, the A's made their final roster cuts and set their 25-man opening day roster.

The only remaining battles left after the A's announced over the weekend that Brandon McCarthy would be the team's fifth starter, were for the bullpen, backup infielder and backup catcher positions.
