Minnesota Twins: Seven Possible Trade Targets

As the trade deadline approaches, Minnesota Twins fans are hoping the team adds another arm to the rotation to help push the Twins to an AL Central division title and beyond.

It was about this time last year when the Twins added Carl Pavano to the rotation.

Trading Spaces: Potential Trade Pieces on Display

We sit just two weeks in front of the Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline, which occurs on July 31. Already, we have seen one ace (Cliff Lee) get dealt to a new team, and there are several more arms that could be traded before 4:00 pm on the 31st.

And tonight, all of those pitchers are on the mound for their current teams. Could this be the last starts for their respective clubs? Will these starts act as auditions? Only time will tell.

Brett Myers Signs with Houston Astros

Back in January of last year (actually almost one year to the day), I wrote a post: “Looking at 2010 to predict 2009.” The idea was to see which players would have a big year in 2009, based on their free agency status after the season ended.

I called this big year the “Adrian Beltre year.”

Risk vs. Reward: A Dozen Free Agent Pitching Options for the Twins

The Minnesota Twins came into this offseason with three major goals:

1) Sign Joe Mauer to an extension
2) Improve the infield
3) Add at least one veteran arm to the rotation

General manager Bill Smith got off to a quick start on his offseason “to do list” by acquiring shortstop J.J.

Brett Myers Will Not Be Returning to the Philadelphia Phillies Next Season

In a meeting today, Ruben Amaro Jr. informed Brett Myers that they would not attempt to renegotiate.

Amaro did not give a reason as to why he will not renew Myers' contract, though the $12 million in cap space may be a factor.

Myers said that he felt it coming and is not as disappointed as he expected.

Myers is willing to negotiate to be a starter or reliever with a new team.

Should the Chicago Cubs Consider Brett Myers?

Reports out of Philadelphia Friday are that the National League Champion Phillies will not pursue an extension with Brett Myers.

Myers, once the top of the Philadelphia rotation, fell out of favor over the last couple years because of injuries and off-the-field issues. He spent some time as the Phillies closer before Brad Lidge was acquired as well.

Breaking News: Brett Myers Added to Philadelphia Phillies Roster

The Philadelphia Phillies have added Brett Myers to the World Series roster while dropping Miguel Cairo to make room reports the Philadelphia Daily News .

Myers, an addition to the bullpen that adds a bit of depth, is likely to lead the way in a set up role affording the Phillies a veteran arm that is capable of shutting down opposing bats.

Amaro's Pitching Moves Makes Me Sick

When Ruben Amaro was appointed general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies shortly after the team’s 2008 World Series victory, he knew the only way his inaugural season would be considered a success was if the Phillies managed to make it back to the World Series. Not an enviable position to be in considering the difficulties involved in repeating, let alone making it back to the World Series two consecutive years in a row.

Phillies Pitching: What Happened to The Six Million Dollar Man?

Pitching.

It’s a simple word with a simple concept: throw the ball into the zone.

Brett Myers' Injury Opens Door for Phillies Prospects

Already a situation that might prompt Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell to declare a state of emergency, the Phillies suffered a devastating blow today with the news that Brett Myers will likely miss the next three to four months with a hip injury.

Statistically, Myers has been the Phillies' best starting pitcher this season.

Myers’ hip injury will likely require surgery, though the right-hander says he will try to find a way to pitch through it.

Not a surprise considering this is a contract year for Myers.
